We are pleased to be featuring Hampton, VA on the cover of our 2010 Virginia Travel Guide.
This year, Hampton – North America’s oldest, continuous English-speaking settlement – celebrates its 400 year anniversary.
For many who are not aware, Hampton traces its history to April 30, 1607. Capt. John Smith set foot on Hampton soil in 1607, where he announced that the land gave them “great comfort”. A lighthouse stands at “Point Comfort”, today.
For history enthusiasts, Hampton is a “must see” destination. But, it offers so much more.
Among some of the attractions are the incredible Air & Space Museum, Hampton History Museum, the wonderful IMax theatre, and Miss Hampton Harbor Tours. Then there is the beautiful antique Hampton Carousel, built in 1920 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Co, by Russian, German & Italian immigrant artisans – is one of only170 working antique carousels in the US.All are located on or near Hampton’s picturesque downtown waterfront .
Hampton will be proudly celebrating their 400th anniversary with festivities and programs throughout the year.

New for 2010 – Travel Virginia Magazine announces the addition of new editor- Reed Hellman.
After a tumultuous 2009, everyone in the publishing industry is anxious to
start 2010 with a bang!
The Publisher of Travel Virginia Magazine, Darlene Perrone, is as anxious as
anyone in the business to kiss 2009 good-bye, and launch 2010 “like a race
horse from the gate” to a victorious 2010!
“We are making many changes for 2010″, Darlene explains, “All of them for
the better. We are introducing many new things for 2010 and are extremely
excited about the outcome.”
One of those things, is to bring Reed Hellman onboard as Editor.
“Reed,” Darlene explains, “is no newcomer to the travel publication
industry. He spent several years as editor for Recreation News, and also
as one of its travel writers. He is world-traveled, keeping a website and
blog of his own. Reed has been one of Travel Virginia Magazine’s well-loved
Culinary Travel Writers, forging a regular feature article titled, ‘A Taste
of Adventure Food Tours’.
Reed is a true professional”, Darlene expains, ” and is setting the bar
quite high for quality, content and diversity. I think it is going to be an
awesome pairing – he and Travel Virginia Magazine. ”
In addition to the print and online publication, Travel Virginia Magazine,
Reed will also be taking on the Editor role for the newest travel
publication launched by Perrone Publishing,
DestinationsTravelMagazine.com.
Unlike Travel Virginia Magazine, which focuses on travel throughout Virginia
and the Mid-Atlantic region, DestinationsTravelMagazine.com focuses on
domestic travel nationwide and international travel, as well. And, unlike
Travel Virginia Magazine, DestinationsTravelMagazine.com is totally
digital – available online only.
“We decided to launch an online publication to reach a broader audience… and do it quickly.”
And reach a broader audience, they have. Having been out only a few short
months, DestinationsTravelMagazine.com is exceeding all their expectations,
with online readings exceeding 30,000+ per month.
“We must be doing something right”, Darlene states. “Whatever it is, I just
want us to keep it going!
DestinationsTravelMagazine is our Travel Portal, ” Darlene explains. ” Our
readers can actually book travel directly from the website. Although we
started the concept with travel to Mexico, we are planning to branch out
from there.
In addition to the magazines, we offer our readers, and advertisers, two websites and two dynamic blogs.
And,” Darlene adds, “we can only go up from here!”
